SK Hynix reportedly wants Intel to make its memory chips in the US

According to a new report from Reuters, SK Hynix is now in talks with Intel about a potential deal that would see the Korean company manufacture memory chips in the US for the first time. There are apparently two ways this can go: either SK Hynix will lease part of Intel's chip factory in Ohio, or it could form a joint venture with Intel as well as some unnamed "major cloud firms that are keen to lock in memory chip supplies". This all comes from "people familiar with the matter", so nothing is confirmed or official yet. A deal with SK Hynix would help Intel get out of its current not...

More details about the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra's cameras emerge

Back in late August, a rumor claimed Samsung would equip the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a new telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom. This would have used a 1/1.9" type sensor. Earlier this week, however, another source vehemently denied this, claiming that the S27 Ultra would have the exact same 5x optical zoom telephoto camera as its predecessor. Today a new, usually reliable source has chimed in on the controversy as well. According to Roland Quandt, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use a 50MP 5x optical zoom telephoto camera with a Sony sensor. So it's not going to be 4x optical zoom, which...

Analyst Jeff Pu has been keeping track of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max wait times for the various configurations. Based on that data, Pu says that the pre-order wait times are “lukewarm”. The stats are as follows. The most popular 256GB and 512GB models are showing 3-4 week wait times for most colors. Pricier 1TB and 2TB models are available immediately if you want a Silver phone, with 1-2 weeks wait times for Black and Glacier models and 3-4 weeks for the Burgundy version. It’s easy to tell that the new Burgundy color is by far the most popular option, while the Silver color...

Korean publication Sisa Journal e reports that Samsung Electronics (the DS division, specifically) wants to increase the prices of DRAM and NAND for smartphones by 7% to 10%. Chinese smartphone makers are first – negotiations with them are already underway. Apple will be asked back to the negotiating table in Q4 (October-December). Even Samsung’s smartphone division will not be spared (the DS and DX divisions operate separately). Apple may be a tough cookie to crack, though. Analysts estimate that Apple buys two times as much NAND for its smartphones as Samsung and three times as much...

According to a new report from Korea today, Qualcomm is still in talks with Samsung about the latter joining TSMC in making the former's upcoming flagship Snapdragon chips. Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro later this month, and a lot of prior rumors have suggested that TSMC will be the only foundry making them. However, today's new report claims Qualcomm is still open to a dual-source setup with TSMC and Samsung. This is made possible by the fact that Samsung's 2nm yields have improved lately, although they're still trailing...

iPhone Duo may become an entire product line, new rumor claims

For a long time the first foldable iPhone was rumored to be called iPhone Ultra, but Apple actually went with iPhone Duo as you may know. If you were wondering why, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has an intriguing theory. According to him, Apple is planning multiple foldable iPhones for the future - a bigger iPhone Duo Max, a smaller iPhone Duo mini, and even an entry-level iPhone Duo SE. These suffixes work much better with the Duo name than they would have with Ultra - just imagine an iPhone Ultra mini, or an iPhone Ultra Max. It's all a bit much. The fact that Duo is three letters long...

Apple unveils its first foldable - the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro official, Week 37 in review

Of course, Apple dominated the most popular stories of week 37 this year. Apple held a historic event on September 9 - the first in new CEO Ternus' reign, and the one to finally unveil the first foldable iPhone. Interestingly, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max scored more hits than the iPhone Duo. Apple's latest Pro models got a variable aperture main lens, a faster A20 Pro SoC, and a smaller Dynamic Island. The iPhone 18 Pro series is now on sale, starting from $1,200/€1,450 and $1,300/€1,600, respectively, and will begin shipping on September 18. The iPhone Duo is, undoubtedly, the...

Weekly poll results: Poco F9 Ultra sizzles, Poco F9 Pro not as hot, both need a price cut

From the comments under last week’s poll we know that some of you have already bought a Poco F9 Ultra. This is clearly the more popular model of the two – its F9 Pro sibling did okay, but it’s clearly in the shadow of the Ultra. Poco F9 Ultra at a glance • Poco F9 Pro at a glance It’s not all roses, though. From the poll results it’s clear that people think that F9 Ultra’s starting price ($730/€830 early bird) is too high. But as our weekly deals posts have shown us, the Poco F series gets frequent discounts and promotions. The F9 generation will not be any different in that...

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo hot-take

Now that we've had a few days to mull over Apple's newest iPhones, it's time to share our initial thoughts. Some things are as clear as day - Apple will still sell every new iPhone that it manufactures, and it's almost a 100% certainty that it will struggle to keep the iPhone Duo in stock. With that out of the way, here's our hot take. Apple took its sweet time with its first foldable, and it shows Apple is said to have been actively working on its first foldable since at least 2019. Reportedly, Tim Cook came back from a trip to China, apparently very energized about...

Deals: iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are on pre-order, iPhone Duo coming soon, here are the alternatives

Pre-orders for the new iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max started this Saturday. And since this is Apple we are talking about, there are no pre-order goodies – the opposite, actually, since Apple raised the iPhone 16, 17 and Air prices by $100. But we won’t be looking at the vanilla models today since the vanilla iPhone 18 isn’t expected until next year. So, here are the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. They feature Apple’s first 2nm chip, the A20 Pro, which runs at close to 5GHz (it peaks at 4.93GHz) and posted massive Geekbench scores. Additionally, the new models promise longer battery life,...
