Samsung Galaxy Watch5's wireless charger gets RRA certified

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 is expected to arrive in August or September. Samsung hasn't divulged anything about it yet, but we already know the smartwatch will come in two sizes and pack slightly larger batteries than its predecessor. And while we await an official word from Samsung about the Galaxy Watch5, its wireless charger has been certified by South Korea's National Radio Research Agency (RRA), moving it a step closer to the launch. The filing on the certifying authority's website doesn't reveal the wireless charger's charging speed, but it tells us the charger has model designation...

Report: Samsung Electronics to manufacture Google’s second-generation Tensor on 4nm process

A new report from Naver cites industry sources that Samsung Electronics foundries will begin mass-producing Google’s second-generation Tensor chipset on the 4nm process this month. Google revealed it would launch two new Pixel 7 models in the fall – these new devices would feature the new chipset. The other thing mentioned was the use of PLP technology. “PLP is a packaging technique which chips cut from a wafer are placed on a rectangular panel. It is possible to minimize the discarded edge, thereby reducing cost and improving productivity.” Samsung is reportedly in close talks with...

According to the source, the Google Pixel Watch is said to last up to a day on a single charge. This number doesn’t represent Google’s official battery figures as the device is not yet released – so the officially advertised battery endurance may change once the Watch launches. Redmi sells 270,000 Note 11T Pro units in one hour

Redmi's recently unveiled Redmi Note 11T Pro for the Chinese market had its first sale earlier today, and it was a very successful one. Redmi general manager Lu Weibing reports that the brand managed to sell over 270,000 units in just one hour. While he doesn't go into specifics, we assume that means both the Note 11T Pro and the Note 11T Pro+ taken together. Still, it's a very impressive achievement, and it looks like the Chinese really like these phones. Hopefully that means they will be launched in other markets too in the future, although at this point it's anyone's guess if that ends...

Letv launches entry-level Y1 Pro in China with Unisoc T310 and 4GB of RAM

Last we covered LeEco on GSMArena was early last year when the company came back to release some TWS wireless earbuds. Following some financial troubles several years ago now, the company hadn’t released any smartphones under the LeEco, nor the Letv brands. That’s about to change with the Letv Y1 Pro. This device isn’t impressive by any means, but could signal a new competitor in the smartphone industry. The Letv Y1 Pro looks pretty much exactly like an iPhone 13, in terms of design, with a very low price point. Starting at CNY 499 (roughly $75), the Y1 Pro is powered by a low-end Unisoc...

OnePlus Nord 2 is now receiving the stable update to Android 12

We're used to seeing newer smartphones receiving big Android updates before their predecessors, but OnePlus went an entirely different way with the Nord line. The original Nord got its Android 12 update about a couple of weeks ago, while its successor, the Nord 2, is only starting to receive it now, after having gone through a couple of Open Betas. The first one of those was outed about a month ago, so it's no surprise that the stable release took a few weeks after that. Anyway, it's rolling out now as a 4.89GB download, over half a year after Google initially released it, but better late...

Flashback: some crazy phones had three or even four SIM card slots

How many SIM slots does your phone have? In some regions dual-SIM models are quite popular, though in recent years eSIM (embedded SIM) has started taking over from the secondary slot for an external card. Many carriers offer low cost roaming or there is no roaming at all (e.g. within the EU), so having the option to pop in a extra card from a local carrier has become less important. But this is now, a decade ago some makers weren’t sure how many phone lines you may need in your pocket. One? Two? Four? Let’s start with the loneliest number. Weekly poll results: Huawei Mate Xs 2 struggles to justify its price tag

Most people feel that foldables are too expensive – not that we had any doubt that is still the case, but last week’s poll reaffirms that belief. Unfortunately for the Huawei Mate Xs 2, it’s not only the price that is dissuading people from wanting one, the outward-folding design may have been a bad idea. A common theme emerged while reading through the comments – €2,000 for a phone with a year old chipset, no 5G and no Google Play Store is too much. The lack of access to parts and services was caused by trade sanctions against Huawei and the situation is unlikely to change...
