Samsung Galaxy S24 FE teardown offers a glimpse at the supposedly larger vapor chamber

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 FE last week. The 2024 model features a larger display (6.7” vs. 6.4”), a new chipset (Exynos 2400e) with a vapor chamber that is “1.1x larger” and a higher capacity battery (4,700mAh vs. 4,500mAh). We can have a closer look at some of these hidden components in this teardown video. With the glass back removed, the layout is very similar to the S23 FE. A heat spreader on the motherboard hides one of the major changes this generation – a version of the Exynos 2400, replacing the Exynos 2200/Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that was inside the 2023 phone. Weekly poll results: the Tecno Phantom V Fold2 and V Flip2 show promise

The results from last week’s poll are in and Tecno’s new foldables are doing pretty well. However, there is a lot riding on reviews as getting the thumbs up can double the popularity of the new V-foldables. The Tecno Phantom V Fold2 drew criticism for reusing the Dimensity 9000+ chipset from its predecessor. On the plus side, Tecno managed to keep the price lower than competing horizontal foldables and brought a major battery upgrade this generation (+750mAh capacity and faster charging). The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 does have a different chipset from its predecessor, but it’s not an...

That has been rumored to arrive next month, and today we finally have a purported release date. According to a new report, Google will start the over-the-air rollout of the Android 15 update for Pixels on October 15. This report also comes with the caveat that things could still change from now until then, especially if some show-stopping bugs are found in the meantime. Android 15 will be available for the Pixel 6 and newer devices....

Xiaomi overtook Apple in terms of global sales for August

Xiaomi claimed the number two spot in Counterpoint Research’s global monthly sell-through volumes for August. The Chinese brand outpaced Apple which came in third place while Samsung retained the leading spot. Xiaomi’s shipment figures in August remained flat but Apple’s seasonal decline in shipments ahead of the iPhone 16 series launch played a pivotal role that led to its declining market share. Redmi Note 13: Pro 4G, Pro 5G, Pro+ 5G On the other side, Xiaomi has been growing rapidly in 2024 with 22% year over year growth in sales volume. Counterpoint analyst point out...

Samsung halts One UI 6.1.1 rollout for the Galaxy S23 Ultra

On Monday Samsung started pushing the update to One UI 6.1.1 to the Galaxy S23 family in Europe, India, and other markets. Today the company has suspended the rollout for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The reason is a bug that is causing ghosting in pictures captured at zoom levels between 16x and 19.9x. This issue doesn't affect any other phones, so only the rollout for the S23 Ultra was halted. The company is currently working on addressing the issue. Once it's done that, it will re-release the update with it fixed. Right now it's unclear how long this will take, but hopefully it won't be more...

EU court finds Qualcomm guilty of predatory pricing

The EU's second highest court confirmed an earlier verdict and found Qualcomm guilty of what is known as predatory pricing. However, the court reduced the fine from €242 million to €238.7 million. The case concerns Qualcomm's contract with British software maker Icera, which is now part of Nvidia. Between 2009 and 2011, Qualcomm sold chips below cost. This practice aims to exclude other competitors from the potential deal. Qualcomm has put forward numerous appeals, including one that claims the Qualcomm-Icera deal accounted for just 0.7% of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications...

Here's the first iPhone 16 Pro unboxing video

Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 family last week and they will all become available this Friday, on September 20. Be that as it may, someone has already gotten their hands on an iPhone 16 Pro - somehow. Naturally (and thankfully) they also decided to film their unboxing of the phone. Not just that, but they have also provided us with a look at how the Camera Control behaves in real life. This new button is more than just a two-step camera shutter button (hi, Sony), featuring multiple sensors that make it incredibly versatile. iPhone 16 Pro Unboxing pic.twitter.com/oiUtk5F928— Majin Bu...

A game of milimeters - Galaxy S25 Ultra to have thinner bezels than iPhone 16 Pro Max

Apple just dropped the new iPhone 16 Pro Max with a massive 6.9-inch display with thinner bezels. Importantly, the display is bigger than the Galaxy S24 Ultra's and its bezels are thinner than Samsung's current flagship. But according to Ice Universe, the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra will match the iPhone 16 Pro Max' 6.9-inch diagonal. It will slim down the bezels by 0.2mm compared to the S24 Ultra, which means Samsung's upcoming flagship will have slimmer bezels than the Pro Max iPhone. The rumor comes alongside a render of the Galaxy S25 Ultra next to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It matches...

Samsung Galaxy S25+ leaks in first renders, looks boring

Following its siblings, the S25 Ultra and vanilla S25, today it's time for the Galaxy S25+ to be portrayed in the first ever leaked renders. These are CAD-based so fine details may be inaccurate, keep that in mind, but the overall gist of the design is what we're going to get come January. And it's definitely boring. Sure, it's instantly recognizable as a Samsung, which is good for the Korean company's brand recognition, but the problem (which isn't new at all) is that it looks just like any Samsung. Maybe the flagship line shouldn't share design cues with phones costing...
